Travel Guide: Washington DC

Updated: May 13, 2020

I had the pleasure of travelling to Washington D.C. for a few days. I have been going once a year for the past few years now, so it is always exciting to try new things while I am there. Here are some of the places I love to go while I am visiting DC.

L-R: Pizza Boli, Ladurée, Nandos

There are a lot of places you can try some amazing food throughout the city. Here are some of my favorite food places you have to try.

1. Ladurée

As you have seen in my previous blog post, I love Ladurée and go to one everytime I am in a city that has one. It has great brunch and lunch options, and amazing desserts.

2. Nandos

Washington D.C. is one of the only places in the USA that has Nandos. I have had this while I visited Canada and India (where it is amazing as well), so it was a must when I visited DC. Their chicken is amazing, and they also have great vegetarian options.

3. Lincoln

This was one of my favorites while visiting DC. They have an amazing variety of food, and change their menu to include some new dishes. It also has a great vibe. Great place to have some drinks and good food.

4. Busboys and Poets

I found this restaurant because I was trying to find a restaurant that was different and only in and around DC. They have a wide variety of food like burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and different entrees as well. Their food is amazing, and if you are looking for something local, this is a great place to go.

5. Pizza Boli

I actually found Pizza Boli on UberEats, and I am so glad I did. Their pizza was amazing, and they had a bunch of options and also make your own with ingredients which are different. If you are in the mood for pizza, this is the place to get it from.

6. Smoke & Barrel BBQ

After I moved to the West Coast, I have missed the BBQ food I would get on the East Coast. Smoke & Barrel have some great options for BBQ food, especially for their platters and their sides. Their ribs were amazing, and fell off the bone, being so tender. Definite if you love BBQ food.

L-R: Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Capitol Hill

Washington D.C. is such an important place in regard to American History. There are different museums to visit and monuments to see. Here are some of my favorite places to check out while I am there.

1. Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill is home to the U.S. Congress. It is also the seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. government, which means it passes laws through here. I personally am fascinated by the law, so this for me is an amazing place to be, especially knowing the significance it has for the country.

2. National Mall

National Mall symbolizes the epicenter of Washington D.C. It consists of Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Korean War Veterans Memorial, National World War II Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and more. It is a great place to walk around and explore, but make sure you have your walking shoes on!

3. Smithsonian Museum

There are many different parts to the Smithsonian Museum including Air and Space, American History, Natural History Museum and more. I would recommend checking out which ones you would like to visit and plan accordingly.

4. White House

The White House is a definite when visiting Washington DC. It is the U.S. President's home while he is in office. You are able to go in for a tour, but would only be able to see the guest areas.

5. CityCenter DC

If you want a break from the historical sites and are in the mood to shop, CityCenter is a great place to go. There are many shops there, so you would be able to find what you are looking for. They also have some great places to eat around there.

6. Library of Congress

Library of Congress is actually 3 buildings. It is the largest library in the world. It also acts as a place that Congress is able to research. If you are a history or law nerd, this is a place to check out.
