Blogging For Beginners

Deciding you want to start a blog but don’t know where to begin? Well you came to the perfect place because in this post we will be highlighting what you need to start your very own blog. We will be sharing the initial steps you NEED to take in order to create a successful blog. Today’s blog post is a special collaboration between ATouchofLipstick and sincerely, gagan.

A Touch of Lipstick was created by Mandy Kaur, a pre-law graduate who has a passion for shopping, fashion, and beauty. Mandy created ATouchOfLipstick to share her travels, shopping tips, and beauty reviews. sincerely, gagan was created by Gagan Kaur, a marketing professional by trade and a content creator by passion. Gagan created sincerely, gagan to establish a platform to share knowledge about effective digital marketing strategies and lifestyle tips.

1. Your Niche

The first thing when starting a blog is deciding what you want your blog to be about and find your niche. It is better to specialize and focus in on one or two topics rather than be scattered and not being known for anything. By focusing on one thing you can build a brand and an engaging audience who knows you for one thing and once you have a substantial audience base you can expand your blog to encompass more. For example, Atouchoflipstick in fashion, lifestyle and beauty and Sincerely, gagan focuses on specifically digital marketing and lifestyle posts. So what are you an expert in?

2. Your Brand

When defining your blog’s name you should consider your niche or some aspect that is related to what you are going to be sharing or talking about. It is important to figure out a blog name that reflects what your blog will be about and should also relate to you. When creating a blog name you should keep in mind social account names as well and what is available to create unity. Making your social media handles and blog name be the same or similar helps unifying and establishing your brand. Making sure your social media is linked properly to your website is a great way for users to follow on social media and your social media followers to view your website. When establishing a brand you need to make sure everything you're tying your brand into, your messaging is unified and in sync.

3. Your Look

Having a specific theme or aesthetic will help better define your brand and attract your unique following base. You need to have a color scheme, layout and aesthetic in mind as to how you want your blog to look. It should be simple, user friendly and aesthetically pleasing. Creating a mood board can help you better define your blog’s color palette, typography and theme. Forming a theme and look of your blog will help you attract not only visitors but followers who constantly engage with your content because of the appealing nature of it.

4. Your Site

To launch your blog you will need a host, platform and domain. If you're not a techy person, don’t fret! There are platforms like Wix and SquareSpace where you can use templates and drag and drop software to help create your site. If you have some experience in web design and development, Wordpress is the most popular and cost-effective tool to bring your blog to life. There are pros and cons to both, while the ease of Wix comes with pretty steep costs involved and on the other hand creating your site from scratch or even wordpress means you have to be your own tech support and debug if any issues come up.

We know a blog can be time consuming and stressful at times but if you act on the key points we mentioned in today's blog, your journey to a successful blog will be more enjoyable. Beyond tactics and tips, you need time and patience most of all as the famous saying goes “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. We hope you enjoyed the blog post and make sure you stay tuned for our next collaboration. For more posts like this one follow us on Instagram @ATouchofLipstick and @sincerelygagan.
