I have made a lot of mistakes shopping, but over the years I have learnt what to do when I'm shopping to make sure I'm not in debt and I truly enjoy what I am buying.
1. Make A Wishlist!
I think it is really important to start by making a wishlist of the items you want. If there are a lot of items, narrow it down to the items you really want first. I usually make my wishlist in the beginning of the year and change it depending on if I want the item or not, and also based on new collections that release throughout the year.
2. Save Up!
I think this is an important point to remember. While we feel that we see people on Instagram have beautiful outfits and accessories, that we HAVE to have them. And this is normal. BUT, you do not want to put yourself in debt to show off your accessories and outfits (whatever it may be) on social media. It is not worth putting yourself in debt to make your social media page look awesome. Save up a bit of your paycheck at a time every month, separate from your usual savings. I try out to eat out as less as I can, so I use those savings towards saving for shopping.
3. Try On What You Want Before You Buy It
So this is one thing that I love to do, and it gives you a good idea of want you want. Trying on the item in store will really help you get a feel of the item and you get to see if you really want it or not. I have seen so many items I love online, but when I try them on in person I end up not getting it. It saves the hassle of also returning it if I purchase it and do not like it.
4. Do Not Impulse Buy
This has been one of my biggest issues to overcome. Do not impulse buy something just because it looks cute right then. Most likely, you will not like it later on and probably never use it. STICK TO YOUR WISHLIST. If there is something you cannot stop thinking about, then maybe consider it. Otherwise, don't get it.
5. Cash Back
Another great way is to take advantage of cash back websites. I used Rakuten (formerly Ebates) to get cash back when I shop online and in store. It is a great way to get your money back when you shop. Take advantage of specials they have for cash back. You can sometimes get upto 20% cash back from stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and more! If you enjoy the experience of going in the store or do not want it delivered to your address, you can always pick it up in store and still get your cash back as well. You can sign up and use my email atouchoflipstick1@gmail.com as a referral and get $10 cashback on your first purchase!
6. Keep an eye out for sales
A good way to save money is to find items you want on sale. Department stores have amazing sales and you can find great deals on stuff you want to buy! You can score Gucci, Valentino and even Christian Louboutins at really good prices. The best sales usually go on in May and November. I have gotten some really good deals on some cute items so it is definitely worth checking out these sales!
I know that it is sometimes hard to buy all of the things that you love, but these tips help me buy what I like but also help me not go over my budget. These steps definitely help in planning out your purchases and not overspending as well. Happy Shopping!
Hope you all enjoyed reading this post and are able to use these tips when you are shopping. Let me know what you guys think and what you want to see next!
